1 / What do you mean by packaging ?
What we mean by packaging is that we provide the packaging for transport, storage, or shipment abroad. Different methods and materials can be used for packaging.
Most often, we make custom wooden crates for air or sea travel, while complying with IATA, IMCO or SEI standards. These specific packagings take into account the particularities of your shipments:
1) The nature of the objects, 2) modes of transport (road, sea or air), 3) the destination
These crates can be packed using different materials:
- Simple Crate with "foam padding" (road freight)
- Upgraded Crate with "padded interior" (sea and air freight)
- Wooden Crate with "flo-pack"
- Upgraded Crate "Chest" (the foam is custom molded for the object)
- "Frame" Crate for paintings
- "Triangle" Crate - specially designed for paintings, glass, and marbles
- Wooden Crate
By packaging, we also mean the construction of custom pallets or wooden foundations. During palletization, the goods or boxes are placed on wooden pallets and then enveloped and wrapped in plastic wrap. This type of packaging is particularly suitable for shipments in containers or trucks within Europe.
Nous pouvons considérer comme emballage le conditionnement en cartons. Le carton présente la qualité d'être léger, facilement évacué, mais ne constitue pas un emballage de haute sécurité.
The use of boxes can also be considered as packaging. A box has the qualities of being lightweight and easily removed, but does not provide good security for the items.
Boxes can be used for small air or truck shipments if the nature of the goods permits. However, the packaging is not made to measure and the lost volume can affect the fare.
When we talk about packaging or pre-packaging, we are also referring to protecting goods with bubble wrap, Tyvec, tissue paper, foam, vacuum-sealed in a heat-sealed package , etc. These pre-packaged goods are usually packaged in boxes before being placed on pallets or in wooden crates. Pre-packaging is not sufficient packaging for international shipping.

2 / Why is it necessary to pack the items?
Apart from the obvious protection that a professional packaging will provide, any package that travels by truck, plane or boat must be easily handled by carriers with handling equipment. We must therefore provide the ability for packages to move with ease when being handled by equipment such as forklifts or pallet trucks

3 / Can I pack my own goods?
It depends. For shipments outside of Europe, health standards require that the wood used for packaging is certified and treated for insect infestation. These woods and certificates are not available in the market for non-professionals.
For other kinds of shipments, it's not a problem if you pack your own goods. It is, however, important to note that at a certain volume and a certain weight, your packages must be palletized, otherwise carriers will refuse to handle them because they are not adequately packaged.
Secondly, a package that is not packed by us will not benefit from our insurance.
If our packaging may seem expensive, you must also consider the fact that our packaging is done in a professional manner with tested materials. With our packaging material and experience, you will avoid losing valuable time.
Finally, we must also note that our goal when packaging is to find the best balance between effective protection and reduced volume. If you are trying to save money with packaging, you are instead more likely to lose money due to a higher transport rate caused by mismanaged volume.

4 / Are you able to package goods abroad for import into Belgium?
We have a network of partners in major exporting countries. Our network continues to grow year after year. Since most of our customers are located in the United States, we have many partners out there who offer the same quality service as Embelco.
